Sulfite paper

Unused sheets can be reused on the back. Collect various sheets and transform them into a scratch pad, or make an X on the printed side and use the other side to print out drafts, or even files. Do not crumple discarded paper for recycling, or mix it with coffee grounds or food.

Postal envelopes

Reuse envelopes that arrive through the external postal service. Simply glue a To/From label on the front and back of the envelope.

Waste Analysis

Perform a laboratory analysis of your water, sewage, and waste for verification of reuse, and in this way you contribute to the environment and also save money.

Glass

Glass is 100% recyclable, and neither material nor quality is lost during the process. Recycling a ton of glass can avoid the use of up to 750 Kg (1650 Lbs) of sand. São Marcos performs recycling collection of burned-out light bulbs, which are collected by a specialized company. Warning: be careful with broken glass. Wrap it in paper or newspaper to prevent professionals from injuring themselves in the recycling process.

Do you know that truck that drives by emitting black smoke every time you are going to or returning from school or work?

Most of the time, we are outraged, but we don’t know exactly how to act; now there is a way to denounce these aggressions to the ENVIRONMENT. Simply write down the vehicle license plate number, the location, and the time at which you saw it, and then simply call the people at CETESB through the ENVIRONMENTAL HOTLINE, and the driver will receive a notification to inspect / tune-up the vehicle. Instead of complaining about the pollution, let’s do something to change this situation!!

Water your plants in the early morning or at sunset. When the sun is high and strong, a large part of the water is lost through evaporation.

A dripping faucet means 190 liters (50 gallons) of water per day that go down the drain.

Turn off the iron shortly before finishing ironing the clothes – it will remain hot during the time necessary to finish the task.
Tune up your car and you will save gas. Use unleaded gas.

Photocopiers and laser printers use plastic toner cartridges, which must be replaced frequently. Contact a company that recycles this plastic or that uses it again.

A study developed by NASA shows that plants can remove 87% of the toxic elements from the environment of a house in a period of 24 hours. Distribute plants abundantly in all the rooms. At least one 4- to 5-foot plant is recommended per approximately 100 square feet. Choose plant species that thrive with little natural light.

Turn off lights and equipment (computers, photocopiers, etc.) when leaving the office. It has been proven that, if during one year, ten personal computers are turned off at night and during the weekends, the energy saved will be equivalent to the price of the computer. Install presence sensors that turn off the lights whenever the room is empty.

Before deciding to buy equipment for the office, consider that inkjet printers use 99% less energy than laser printers during printing, and 87% less when inactive; portable computers consume 1% of the energy of an office computer. If possible, opt for this equipment.

Old toys, books, and games that you no longer want can be used by others, so don’t throw them away.
